I'm gonna have to warn you that this post might be too lengthy haha.
First thing first, because September 14 2015 marks a pretty special day in Madihah's history where I treated my very first patient. The patient was pretty apprehensive because she knew it was my first time, but Dipti mam was really helpful and alhamdulillah it went on pretty well. I extracted her lower second molar teehee!
I think I've overcome my fear of blood. There are many cases today which involve a lot of blood. First my very own case where he has an inflammation beneath the root, and then Roy's case where she had to incise her patient's gum and elevate it until you see the bone and worst was the biopsy of tongue. Gila weh the postgrad (PG) like cut a small part of the tongue darah takyah cakap ah haha but alhamdulillah I did it without breaking a sweat.
Other than that this department helps me with a lot of things, it even makes me realize things that I never realized before.
I love how the hygiene and infection control is taken care very seriously in this department. Even the lecturers would sanitize their hands and put on sterile gloves before helping the students. It totally changes my view on how unhygienic the dental clinics in India are. Well, at least the clinics in this college, or to be more precise this particular department in this college.
And I love how everyone in the department is really nice, and so smart, and they're like super professional - they deserve all the respect like seriously. The lecturers and PGs, the interns and even the bhaiyas waiting at the instrument place are all very sweet.
Their gentleness in handling the patient is the thing that always makes me melt hahaha, from their voice tone to how they touch the patients.
Since living here in India, I've always been insecure bila macam I kena tulis what someone says, especially when it involves things like the drugs that I don't know or writing down the history taken by PGs at the outpatient department. And I being so pekak always have to ask them to repeat, and the mouth mask really doesn't help. But so far in this department, they've all been so nice to me. Like the other day a PG asked me to write a drug prescription, it's Divon Plus and he had to repeat that for like four times until I get it right. Today, another PG asked me to write down patients complains, I asked twice still tak dengar and the third time I was like "Ha?" Hahaha lawak la sikit. But they would still reply with the same tone of voice. They didn't raise their voice even a little. They're THAT nice.
Another third year PG, who I've so much respect for, assisted Roy's case today and he's really good.
I just love this department so far, I know it's pretty early to say this but I think it'll be my favorite department. It even makes me think of specializing in this area. Haha. Wishful thinking. We'll see what the future brings.
